Today we are speaking to Harry Rowe, an Apprentice in Signalling in RSS Infrastructure. We’re catching up with our apprentices across the Group as part of National Apprenticeship Week to learn more about them, their progress, and their future goals.
Hello Harry Rowe, what were you doing before working at RSS Infrastructure?
I was unemployed, so this was a great opportunity to learn a new skill and start my career in Rail.
Have you ever worked in the rail/civils sectors before working at RSS Infrastructure?
I did some labouring briefly when I was 18 but haven’t worked in the sector before.
What are your job role and responsibilities at RSS Infrastructure?
I work as a Signalling apprentice in the Signalling Department led by Victor Heath. My duties are given to me by my Team Leader. I help install signalling equipment for the Work Package Plan and Task Briefings. I help to check safety standards and any system failures with my teammates. I also help identify and report any issues we spot during the task.
What are your plans, and how will working at RSS Infrastructure help you achieve them?
From the apprenticeship course, I want to get my Level 3 certificate, and then I want to see if there are any opportunities for further education. When I joined, I was interested in getting a new qualification and how apprenticeships could help people like me move on to Higher Apprenticeships or other courses.
Thanks to Harry for taking some time to tell us about his apprenticeship journey so far.
